How to Hide Hashtags on Instagram

In this post we teach you how to hide Instagram hashtags, without looking like a total #goober.

Don’t put hashtags in the caption. Instead, put them in your first comment and insert five dots  (• • • • •) before the hashtags. That way Instagram will hide the comment.

Hashtags are how Instagram users navigate the app to find new content to enjoy.

Take the hashtag #nyceats for example.

Every day thousands of people browse #nyceats to discover new places to go and dishes to try in the New York City.

If you’re a restaurant in one of the five boroughs, it makes sense to tag your posts with #nyceats to bring more people to your page.Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags per post.

In order to maximize your reach you’d also want to tag your posts with other relevant hashtags such as #nycfood or #nycpizza — but there’s an important caveat.

Posts with too many hashtags can come across as inauthentic, too spammy, cluttered, and overall make it look like you’re trying too hard.

This is a catch, and it’s a Catch-22.

At Jumper Media we help hundreds of businesses supercharge their social media presence.

Our clients wanted to use more hashtags to get more exposure on Instagram, but they didn’t want to lose their brand’s voice.

So we put on our thinking caps and thought, a lot.

And after lots of thinking, we came up with a fine solution.

We call it Jumper Media’s Patented Absolute Best Way to Hide Hashtags on Instagram so You Can Maximize Your Reach Without Looking Like a Goober.

Follow these 7 simple steps and join us on the pathway to Instagram success.

  1. Open a text editor on your phone (we use Evernote, but you can also use “Notes”)
  2. Type a dot • then press “Return”.  Repeat 5 times. (See image above.)
  3. Place your hashtags right underneath the 5th dot.
  4. Copy the text (line breaks and all) and open the Instagram App.
  5. In the Instagram App post your photo and caption.  (It’s ok to have a few hashtags in the caption, but please, no more than 5.)
  6. After you’ve posted your photo, click the comment button, paste the text you copied in step 4 and click “Post”.
  7. You’re all done! Watch the likes flock like the salmon of Capistrano 😉

Major Key | None of this will work if you type the dots directly into Instagram.  That’s why you need to use the text editor!

Say goodbye to a messy Insta feed, and hello to on-brand content optimized for maximum exposure.

Try it out for yourself!

Be sure to use the hashtag #jumpermedia so we can see your new clutter-free masterpiece.
